What is Menopause?

Menopause is more than hot flashes.

Perimenopause and menopause are natural transitions that occur as hormone levels change with age. While many women experience hot flashes and night sweats, hormonal shifts can also affect sleep, mood, memory, libido, energy, body composition, joint health, and overall quality of life.

Although estrogen receives much of the attention, declining progesterone and testosterone can also play important roles in how women feel during midlife and beyond. These hormonal changes are complex and highly individual.

Menopause is not only about symptom management—it's also about long-term health. Hormonal changes can affect bone health, cardiovascular health, cognitive function, sexual health, and healthy aging.

Many women are surprised to learn that it may still be possible to benefit from hormone therapy years after menopause. Treatment decisions should always be individualized and based on your symptoms, health history, goals, and personal preferences.

At Dragonfly Menopause Care, we take a comprehensive, physician-led approach to helping women navigate perimenopause, menopause, and healthy aging with confidence.

Why Dragonfly?

Dragonfly Menopause Care was born from a simple observation: women deserved better.

After years of practicing medicine—and through my own experiences as a woman, a wife, and a mother of four—I became increasingly aware of how difficult it was for women to find comprehensive, individualized menopause care. Many felt dismissed, rushed through appointments, or told that their symptoms were simply something they had to endure. Others were left sorting through conflicting information on their own, unsure where to turn for guidance.

My original vision was modest. Starting in Chanhassen, Minnesota, I hoped to create a small practice for the handful of women who might be interested in a more focused approach to menopause and midlife health—one that combined evidence-based medicine with a functional medicine perspective and truly personalized care.

Very quickly, it became clear that there were far more than a handful of women pursuing this type of care. Women from their 30s through their 80s began seeking us out from all across the Twin Cities area. Some were healthy and simply wanted to optimize their health and quality of life. Others arrived with complex medical histories, including cancer survivorship, autoimmune conditions, clotting disorders, surgical menopause, and years of unanswered questions. What they shared was a desire for thoughtful, expert care and a physician willing to listen.

Today, Dragonfly Menopause Care has grown into a thriving practice dedicated exclusively to the care of women in midlife and beyond. As of July 2026, we are excited to welcome a second physician, Dr. Christina Manders. Along with additional support staff, this expansion will allow us to serve even more women throughout Minnesota and help them achieve their highest possible quality of life.

What makes Dragonfly special is our belief that menopause care is both an art and a science. It is a complex specialty that requires an understanding of hormones, sleep, metabolism, bone health, cardiovascular risk, sexual health, mental health, and the unique experiences of each woman sitting across from us. We also believe that excellent care is not defined by whether a woman chooses hormones. Every woman deserves to be heard, receive individualized recommendations, have honest conversations, and get access to treatment options that align with her goals, values, and medical history.

We feel incredibly fortunate to do this work every day. Helping women regain their energy, confidence, sleep, vitality, and sense of themselves is one of the most rewarding experiences in medicine.

Thank you for trusting us with your care. We at Dragonfly are honored to be part of your journey.
